Register a birth or death
Greenfield Register Office provides registration services for births, deaths, marriages, and civil partnerships. You can book an appointment to register a vital event.
Registering a birth
You must register a birth within 42 days of the child being born. The registration can be made by either parent, or by a person present at the birth or in the district when the birth occurred.
What you need to bring
- Medical certificate from the hospital or midwife
- Proof of address (e.g., utility bill or passport)
- Birth certificate of the parent(s) if available
- Marriage or civil partnership certificate if applicable
Registering a death
You must register a death within 5 days (8 days in exceptional circumstances). The death can be registered by a relative, someone present at the death, or the person arranging the funeral.

- Medical certificate cause of death
- Birth certificate or passport of the deceased
- Marriage or civil partnership certificate if applicable
- Proof of address
Appointment booking
Appointments are recommended but not mandatory. Walk-ins are welcome at the Register Office during opening hours.
